Today, the 10th of November 2008, President elect Obama visits the White House, an historic event. In 71 days he becomes the single most responsible person for the carrying out of Our constitutional work defined above. Also on this day, news is released from "The Office of the President Elect" that one of the first orders of business will be to close the door for oil and gas exploration on recently opened western lands. I have no doubt that the dead bolt will also turn on any chance of offshore exploration. Talk about windfall profits, this is return on investment for the loyal greens
The question we must ask is, how will these actions help to insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the blessings of Liberty?
While oil prices have granted us a brief reprieve, their current tranquility will not last long. We now have a real window of opportunity to increase domestic production and stave off or at least minimize the next oil shock. The only welfare promoted by shackling domestic production is that which will need to be given to the increasing numbers of jobless in this nation as our ability to compete is further eroded.
Further more I maintain that Energy Independence equals Homeland security. It is self evident that the more dependent we are for energy on radical and mendacious people in unstable parts of the world the less secure are the Blessings of Liberty. The injury done to the common defence in such reflexive pandering to his party faithful is indefensible.
While Russia and China along with Venezuela and Cuba ramp up exploration just outside our territorial waters we give up what little hope we have at middle range energy independence. Instead we will cast aside tried and true exploration in favor of untried and unproven hopes and wishes blowin' in the wind. I believe that this is change that will cost us more than a little change. It will cost us jobs and pieces of our liberty.
Since our president elect is very well versed in the terminology of radicalism, lets use some language he will understand.
Barack Obama's election brings to fruition (in a very positive way) this infamous Sartre coinage popularized by Malcolm X.

Let us now turn this radical declaration to use in defence of liberty, independence, domestic tranquility and the general welfare.
ENERGY INDEPENDENCE ......BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
By any means necessary we should strive for and achieve energy independence. Oil and gas among other proven technologies must be a part of that plan. While the plan should include whatever renewable and green technologies we can develop, lets be realistic those are long term options. In the near and middle terms, we cannot be blinded by a glaring verdant light.
Mr. Obama, please do not crucify liberty on a cross of green.
